Classified as a National park, Samaria Gorge is one of the most spectacular natural parks in Europe. Starting south of the settlement of Omalos, 42 km south ofChania, spans for 18 km as far as the south Crete coast.
I think walking down the Samaria Gorge is one of my fondest memories from Crete. Although I felt quite exhausted after 18 km walk down the gorge.
Because of the exuberant flora it feels like being in a completly different place than Crete.
